Limit Texas Holdem Games

Limit cash games are designated by their bet levels. The first number is the amount you must bet preflop and on the flop. The second number is the amount you must bet on the turn and the river. Bets are fixed amounts and you cannot bet or raise any more or any less than the amount that is specified. For example, if you are playing in an 10/20 limit game, the bets and raises preflop and on the flop are $10 each. On the turn and river, the bets and raises must be $20 each. To figure out the blinds in a limit game, simply take the small bet and divide that in half. That is the small blind. The big blind is equal to the small bet. For example, in a 10/20 limit game, the small blind is $5 and the big blind is $10.

In a limit game, there is a minimum buy-in. This can range anywhere from 10 small bets to 10 large bets. However, you usually do not want to sit down at a table with less than 50 big bets. In a 10/20 limit game, the minimum buy-in would be about $200, but you should seriously consider sitting down with about $1000. Sitting down with $1000 will certainly enhance your table image and let people know that you do not play scared. There are no maximum buy-ins in a limit game. Since you can only bet and raise a specific amount, the size of your stack really does not matter. Nothing prevents you from buying into a 1/2 limit game for $100,000.
