Calculating Pot Odds is straight forward. You simply compare the amount of the money in the pot to the amount that you must put in the pot to make the call.
Example:
There is $40 in the pot, and your opponent bets $10.
There is now $50 in the pot ($40 originally plus the $10 bet by your opponent)
You must put $10 more in for a chance to win $50.
The Pot Odds calculation looks like this:
Amount in Pot : Amount to call this bet
Pot Odds: 50:10 or
Pot Odds: 5:1
Do not forget to take the total amount of the pot into consideration. For example, lets say the same $40 is in the pot, but there are FOUR people playing including you.
Player #1 bets $10.
Player #2 folds
Player#3 calls
Now what are your pot odds? There was $40 to start, both Player #1 and Player #3 put in $10 each. There is now $60 in the pot, and you must call $10. Your pot odds are therefore:
Pot Odds: 60:10 or
Pot Odds: 6:1
Calculating Pot Odds requires you to keep track of how much money is in the pot at all time.
